Hong Kong Green Building Week 2013

1. Mini LegCo & Youth Forum

"Hong Kong Green Building Week 2013 – Mini LegCo & Youth Forum" is organised by Construction Industry Council and Hong Kong Green Building Council, and co-organised by The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, Junior Achievement Hong Kong and Project WeCan.

The Mini LegCo & Youth Forum aims to raise students’ awareness on green building issues and deepen their knowledge on environmental sustainability. Activities include Green building seminar by BEAM Pro, green building site visit, Mock LegCO debate and dialogues with professionals.

The mock LegCo debate was held at the Legislative Council Complex on 14 September 2013. The 60 students were divided into 12 teams. The motion was “Government should tighten the requirements for the gross floor area concession for new developments”. Mr. Wong Kam-sing, Secretary for the Environment, and LegCo Members were invited to witness the debate and dialogue with students. The Secretary and LegCo Members were pleased to answer students’ questions and the students learned a lot of environmental sustainability from this activity. After joining this activity, they know more about the current environmental issues in Hong Kong and willing to share what they have learnt to others.

2. Green Building Site Visit
36 students and 2 university volunteers attended the “The Green Building Tour” on 7 September 2013. Participants visited the Urban Farm on the rooftop of Hysan Place, the environmentally-friendly room and green wall materials at the Holiday Inn Express Hong Kong Soho Hotel.
