Recycling campaign for Chinese New Year red packets 2014

According to the estimates of Greeners Action, 320 million red packets were used last Chinese New Year in Hong Kong, which means 16,300 trees were felled. A recycling campaign for Chinese New Year red packets was launched by HKFYG Sustainability Unit. A recycling box for the collection was placed in G/F, The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups Building from 4 Feb 2014 to 14 Feb 2014.  In the meanwhile, by our different promotion channels, including our Facebook, GoGreen website and internal news corner, our staff and local citizens are encouraged to reuse the red packets and reduce the usage of new red packets so as to reduce waste at source.

We recycled about 4 boxes of red packets (In approximate more than 2000 red packets). Apart from the colleagues’ participation, some visitors are attracted to put their red packets into the recycling box under our promotion in GoGreen website and our Facebook.

We donated all of the red packets to green groups for recycling. Thanks for all your enthusiastic support and HKFYG will organize more environmental education activities in the future to spread the key environmental messages in the public.
